Herein has been compiled an overview of the most important events pertaining to the history of house Bywater in particular and the Cocklesvale in general, faithfully compiled from the several great works held within the solar of Waterdeep Castle.

More will be added when Maester Thorben has some spare time.


Year 219 A.C.

Births:

  • Leonorra Crakehall, second daughter to Lord Aubrey Chester.

    Year 241 A.C.

    Births:

  • Eron Bywater, first son and heir to Lord Alain Bywater.

    Year 245 A.C.

    Births:

  • Daeron Bywater, second son to Lord Alain Bywater.

    Events of Note:

  • Autumn sets in and white ravens are sent from the Citadel.

    Year 248 A.C.

    Births:

  • Maelys Bywater, third son to Lord Alain Bywater.

    Events of Note:

  • Winter reigns and the Bywater Pond is partly covered in Ice. It is known at Bywater as “Alain’s Long Winter”.

    Year 249 A.C.

    Births:

  • Leonette Chester, oldest surviving daughter to Lord Chester. Born prematurely, one moon to early.
  • Rechildess Wynd, oldest daughter to Lord Torrhen Wynd. Born at Wolfsglen.

    Events of Note:

  • Spring returns to Westeros.

    Year 250 A.C.

    Births:

  • Aryn Beesbury, fourth son to Lord Beesbury. Born at Honeyholt.
  • Elana Chester, second surviving daughter to Lord Chester. Born at sea.

    Year 251 A.C.

    Births:

  • Erik Wynd, firstborn son to Lord Torrhen Wynd. Born at Wolfsglen.

    Year 253 A.C.

    Births:

  • Leon Cowden, second son to Lord Tytos Cowden. Born at Stagscrown.

    Death:

  • Ralph Chester, died from a Winter Cold.

    Events of Note:

  • The Winter that Never Was. This year winter comes but is over before the year ends.

    Year 254 A.C.

    Births:

  • Aemon Bywater, fourth son to Lord Alain Bywater. His mother dies two months after his birth.

    Deaths:

  • Alyssa Bywater (Velaryon), wife to Lord Alain Bywater, died in childbirth, aged twenty-eight years. Cremated and placed in the family crypt.

    Year 256 A.C.

    Births:

  • Alise Wynd, second daughter to Lord Torrhen Wynd. Born at Woodsworth. She was born two months early.

    Events of Note:

  • Daeron Bywater is sent to serve as Lord Velaryon’s page. He is introduced to the court at King’s Landing later the same year.
  • Maelys Bywater is sent to serve as Lord Crakehall’s page. He later squires for him.

    Year 260 A.C.

    Deaths:

  • Eron Bywater, first son and heir to Lord Alain Bywater. Died on the Stepstones. Cremated and placed in the family crypts.

    Events of Note:

  • War of the Ninepenny Kings.
  • Eron Bywater leads a contingent from the Cocklesreach to support the king’s forces.
  • Daeron Bywater, who went as the squire of Eron Bywater, return with the tattered remains of their men and his brother’s dead body.

    Year 261 A.C.

    Births:

  • Thomas Barrows, second son of Sergeant Will Barrows. Born in Bywater town.

    Events of Note:

  • The Reyne-Tarbeck Rebellion.
  • Maelys Bywater, then squire, unexpectedly sees combat for the first time as the Reyne’s attack the Lannister camp.

    Year 262 A.C.

    Births:

  • Sandor Hunt, first son to Samwell Hunt, the brother of Lord Hunt. Born at Hunter’s Rest in the Uplands.
  • Vermillion Hill, bastard son to Maelys Bywater. His mother was a serving girl. Born in Crakehall.

    Year 263 A.C.

    Events of Note:

  • Leonette Chester is sent to the Arbor where she spends the next year with her relatives of house Redwyne.
  • Maelys Bywater is taken as squire by Ser Welym Serrett at the Silverhills after the death of Lord Crackehall.
  • Lord Alain Bywater starts suffering from severe gout.

    Year 264 A.C.

    Events of Note:

  • Elana Chester is invited to the court of Aerys II Targaryen.
  • Maelys Bywater is knighted by Welym Serrett for his valour in defending the smallfolk of Hetten from the brigands of “ser” Robar Hill.

    Year 265 A.C.

    Events of Note:

  • Tournament at Casterly Rock on the occasion of Lady Joanna Lannister’s first pregnancy. Ser Maelys Bywater participates and finishes second, defeated at the final tilt by Ser Barristan Selmy.
  • Elana Chester is present at the tournament and gives Maelys her charm.

    Year 266 A.C.

    Births:

  • Braedon Bywater, first trueborn son to Ser Maelys Bywater.

    Events of Note:

  • A grand wedding is held at Old Elm on Greenshield where Daeron Bywater marries Leonette Chester, and Ser Maelys Bywater marries Elana Chester.
  • Rechildess Wynd marries ser Robert Vyrwel at Darkdell in the Reach.

    Year 267 A.C.

    Births:

  • Aeron Bywater, first son and heir to Daeron Bywater, born second of two twins.
  • Rhaena Bywater, first daughter to Daeron Bywater, born first of two twins.
  • Ralph Chester, first son and heir to Moribald Chester. Born on Greenshield.

    Year 269 A.C.

    Births:

  • Rhae Bywater, second daughter to Ser Maelys Bywater
  • Sansa Wynd, first daughter to Lord Erik Wynd. Born in Wolvesglen.

    Year 270 A.C.

    Births:

  • Alain Bywater, second son to Daeron Bywater.

    Events of Note:

  • Lord Alain Bywater is completely immobilized by gout and suffers from bad blood.
  • Sandor Hunt is made page of Lord Mullendore at the Uplands.

    Year 271 A.C.

    Deaths:

  • Lord Alain Bywater, dies due to bad blood and old age, aged fifty-two years.

    Events of Note:

  • Ser Aryn Beesbury becomes a knight of the Griffons.

    Year 272 A.C.

    Events of Note:

  • Tournament of the King’s Tenth Anniversary held at King’s Landing.
  • Ser Aryn Beesbury is horribly scarred by the lance of Ser Eldon Estermont.

    Year 273 A.C.

    Births:

  • Elaena Bywater, second daughter and youngest child to Lord Daeron Bywater.
  • Steffon Cowden, second son to Lord Cowden. Born at Stagscrown.

    Events of Note:

  • Winter reigns across the Cocklesreach. Alain sees snow for the first time.
  • Sandor Hunt is made squire of ser Aemon Bywater and comes to castle Waterdeep.

    Year 274 A.C.

    Births:

  • Daeron Rivers, bastard son of Ser Aemon Bywater. Approximate date.

    Events of Note:

  • Ser Aryn Beesbury is made bannerman of the Griffons.
  • Winter ends and springs returns.

    Year 276 A.C.

    Events of Note:

  • Aeron Bywater sent as page to Ser Quentin Tyrell at Highgarden, he later becomes his squire.
  • Lady Leonorra Chester falls from her horse during a trip on Greenshield. She cannot walk again for two years.

    Year 278 A.C.

    Events of Note:

  • Rhaena Bywater is betrothed to Ser Garth Hightower, though he is significantly older than her.
  • Sansa Wynd is struck by the dreaded Cow’s Rash, also known as the pox.

    Year 279 A.C.

    Events of Note:

  • Sandor Hunt is knighted by Rhaegar Targaryen at the Tournament in Oldtown.

    Year 282 A.C.

    Deaths:

  • Lord Leon Cowden, Lord of house Cowden, died aged 30 near the river Rush. The exact reason for his demise remains disputed.
  • Lord Harribald Chester, Lord of house Chester, died of diarrhoea en route to Ashford.

    Events of Note:

  • Robert Baratheon raises his banners in revolt and the War of the Usurper beings.
  • Battle of Ashford is fought at Ashford between the vanguard of the forces of house Tyrell and the banners of the Baratheon. Five Bywaters ride at the head of the Griffons.
  • Aeron Bywater is knighted upon the fields of Ashford by Mace Tyrell himself after Quentin Tyrell’s death.
  • Siege of Queensburry begins.
  • Lord Erik Wynd is declared insane after the death of his son and wife.
  • Rhae Bywater meets Lorent Caswell for the first time.

    Year 283 A.C.

    Deaths:

  • Aemon Bywater, fourth son of the late Alain Bywater, died aged 29 at the Trident.

    Events of Note:

  • The War of the Usurper ends with the rebels victorious.
  • Siege of Queensburry ends, the castle is sacked and put to the torch.
  • Thomas Barrows is made Captain of the Bywater’s Own.
  • Rhaena Bywater wed Garth Hightower after being betrothed for five years.

    Year 284 A.C.

    Events of Note:

  • Ser Sandor Hunt weds Beryel Hastwyck, third daughter of Lord Hastwyck’s nephew.
